Units

Animal Control Unit

The Monroe Police Department has two Animal Control Officers that provide comprehensive animal control for Monroe’s citizens. They work to resolve all animal-related problems with minimal amount of stress to the complainant and the animal involved.


CIB Unit

The responsibilities of the C.I.B. Unit include the investigation of crimes – murder, robbery, rape, burglary, serious assaults, juvenile crimes, drug activity and any other crimes that warrant an in-depth investigation as determined on a case-by-case basis.


CIT

Community Policing is a philosophy in which the citizens and police officers are responsible, in partnership, for the quality of life within their community. Under the community policing philosophy, there is a need for extensive interaction between the police and community members to build partnerships which will be in place during both emergency and non-emergency situations.


DARE

This year millions of school children around the world will benefit from D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), the highly acclaimed program that gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence.


Narcotics Unit

The Narcotics Unit is dedicated to the thorough and objective investigation of all narcotics related complaints and activities within the City of Monroe.


SRT

The Special Response Team’s purpose and operational objectives are containment and apprehension. This may involve locating and isolating suspects, rescuing injured persons, evaluating threatened areas and utilizing special tactics and resources to affect apprehension in a manner that affords minimum risk to police and citizens who may be directly or indirectly affected.


Traffic Unit 

The officers of the Traffic Unit are primarily responsible for enforcing North Carolina Vehicle Code statutes, enforcement of local traffic ordinances, and investigation of vehicle collisions. The purpose of the traffic unit is to create safer roadways for motorist, cyclists and pedestrians.
